What is Dental Sedation?

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
This medication is inhaled through the nose and mouth. Nitrous oxide calms patients, though they remain awake and able to communicate. It also tends to increase pain threshold, reduce gag reflex, make time pass more quickly and lessen anxiety.
Oral Sedation
Your dentist can prescribe oral sedatives in liquid or pill form. Take this medication orally before your appointment. While it will leave you awake for the procedure, you'll feel a relaxing effect. Oral medication is usually from a group of drugs known as Benzodiazapines.
